Any info about Cyberdrive DX162DA?

He probably didn't lie.. he just didn't know any better. Most of those guys don't know a DVD+R disc from DVD-R. I still remember one of them telling me that black CD-R discs sound better.

As far as the DX162D goes.. the little I've heard about the drive seems to be good. For $50 I might have to pick one up and run some tests.

So far I have great results with mine.
I bought it last week for $89.99 but haven't sent off for the rebate so I wonder if I can get them to just give me the $10.00 difference instead of me bringing the drive back

I bought one today. I used a 10% coupon that I got in the mail from Best Buy, so I got it for the same price that you would get it online. I got the very last one. It was made in December. It says it on the bottom of the box.

I now have to figure out how to get it into my computer. My ide ports are all used up except for the onboard promise controller. I don't think the promise fasttrack 378 controller allows dvd burners to be used. I'm not sure though.

I may have to move my hard drives to the promise controller, and then move my dvd burners to the via ide controllers. I have the Asus K8V SE Deluxe.

Does anyone know which chipset the Cyberhome Dx162 uses?

It uses the Nexperia chipset. The same one in the BenQ DW1620.

That's cool. I'm glad it uses the same one as the Benq 1620.

I just wish Cyberhome would start releasing new firmware for the drive. I don't want to get stuck with a drive that doesn't have any firmware support.

No, it's not based on the BenQ at all.
It just uses the same chipset, but other hardware and firmwares are different.

Optorite-drives are not avaible in Germany. Someone know whether MSI brings an OEM of the 1603?

I'm fairly certain that the 1603 is an Optorite. When I talked to them this fall, they mentioned that it would be their own drive design. Also, looking at the feature set.. it most likely uses a Sanyo chipset. I can't think of too many companies that use that other than Optorite.

Hopefully it will be a good drive.

It's really cheap at newegg. This is a retail drive. It even comes with a beige and black bezel. That's really cool. I haven't seen many drives come with both. I wish more companies did that.
