DVD Shrink Problem?

Postby smartin4 on Mon Jan 17, 2005 8:28 pm

I have recently begun using Shrink (v 3.2.0.15) more often than in the past. I have backed up between 12-15 discs over the last 2 weeks. The problem is that the backup copies seem to hang and skip a few frames at 3 or 4 different spots during playback. This has happened with 3 different movies so far (I haven't had time to view them all).

I know it is not my standalone player, as I lent my Chappelle backup to a friend and she had the same problem on a completely different brand of standalone player.

Any thoughts on what might be causing the issue?

My computer is: 1.8 GB P4, 1GB RAM, backing movies up to 80 GB Maxtor 7200RPM. Using a Lite-On LDW-851S to read & to do the burn. FW is GSC2.

How much compression have you used on the problem discs?. Are they a new kind of media? Different burn speed? New drive firmware?

Often, playback problems are a result of an underlying player incompatability with the media, and very small differences in the burn quality can cause freezes and picture breakup. Over-compression of the video can also cause troubles, but using the new "quality settings" in Shrink will overcome most of these problems.

I would recommend that you use bether media. Also do a quality check test on the nurned dvds to check the error rates.

make sure your 80gb stays defragged if you put movies on them then burn off it

i would think if you have a movie stored on a hard drive then defrag it, it might interrupt the continuity of the image

just my theory

I always use TY+R and shrink the movie down to the bare min. Delete credits and intro as well as all additional languages and sound other than 5.1. Stay away from the 2 channel. Some of that is director comments that are unlabeled.
No problems yet! Burning at 16x with a 3500.

Like this would never happen. #-o When I first used Shrink I selected 2 channel as suggested in the Shrink guide and burned my first 3 disks with director comments that were labeled 2 channel stereo. #-o

Since I leave my speakers off I did not know what was happening. It's time to turn those speakers on eh! #-o

PS/ The Forgotton was the first movie I was forced to use decrypt 3.2 first.
