Master and slave settings

Postby griz on Thu Jan 20, 2005 11:16 am

Hi,

I've got one HDD, a Lite-On DVD burner and a Samsung combo drive. Is there an ideal configuration as far as IDE channels and master / slave settings?

Thanks for the insight!

you have 2 IDE channels...your harddrive is already on 1 of them (the primary one). Your burners are on the secondary one (they should be). You can have 2 devices per channel for a total of 4

you can use cable select if you want and you cable supports it. Or make the burner master and combo drive slave. Since your hardrive is on the primary IDE channel your burner and combo settings will not affect it.

good resource for this is:

I don't use CS anymore but I think it works fine if both drives are set to CS and your BIOS is set appropriately.
