In House Review - BenQ DW1620 Double Layer 16x DVD±RW

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

Postby dolphinius_rex on Thu Jan 27, 2005 2:27 pm

Yeah, BenQ has a new firmware coming out for sure... but it's not being rushed out anytime soon according to the e-mail I received about 9 hours ago. That isn't to say it'll be a month or longer, but it's not imminent as I understand it. Probably some people might have advanced beta's of it though.

Still working on the scrached CD testing thing... it's been a busy week. When I say I got the e-mail 9 hours ago, that was ~1am, which is about 1.5 hours before I went to bed, which was 4.5 hours before I left for work, (which is where I am now).... and this has been my regular pattern all week :o
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

Hrm... all of a sudden I think I know why I've been getting certain questions from BenQ lately. Hrm.... this could be interesting.

Ok, sorry, I gotta play the secretive role now, until I know more for sure

Umm, yeah, I noticed that also.... Don't worry, I brought it up with BenQ. I wrote an e-mail a couple hours ago, and hopefully will know a little more later on.

I will report whatever I am capable of reporting... however sometimes I'm not allowed to say everything.

Yup, it's still there. I don't think it's likely to change either... I'll try to remember to mention it next time I'm e-mailing BenQ. Keep in mind, this is ONLY an issue for CD-Rs, and you can just as easily do a transfer rate test on them, and look for slow downs.

Just purchased DW 1620

Postby Graham35 on Sun Jan 30, 2005 10:27 am

Hi, I am new here
I have just got a new DW 1620, I have been on the benq-eu website to check the up-grades (like you do) and I am not sure about the firmware up-date.
My model is date code November 2004
Firmware is B7N9
The firmware offered on the web site is B7M9, so I am assuming mine is the latest offering - can someone please confirm this...

All the other up-dates from the web site, I already have on my software supplied in the box.

Also I have read a lot of the posts here about DVD+R etc, could someone recommend a a good cheap make and a supplier that would send me them into Spain

Well it was nice to meet you all, and hopefully you may be able to help me.
Thanks for your time.
Regards
Graham

As my firmware is B7N9 - and the latest firmware is B7T9 should I upgrade to this - what about the ones in between should I just ignore them??? - does B7T9 have all the additions of the firmware between B7N9 & B7T9
Also how do I go about adding the firmware, I download the zip, then what - is it self executing when I open the zip icon
Thanks

in my opinion the firmware B7P9 works well for most folks depending on the brand of dvd media you use.

to graham you can download the official firmware B7P9 from this link:
http://www.benq.com/drivers/storage_drivers.html#dvdrw

all you do is turn off all the software you have running in the background like antivirus programs. then double click on that exe file you downloaded then let it flash your drive. after it's done flashing then just reboot your pc. :)

Thanks for your replies - just a little more need to help me thro this
You say B7P9 but what about B7T9 which must be the latest firmware..

Also what about the firmware between mine B7N9 to the latest either P9 or T9, what should I do about these - just ingnore them and download the latest firmware (which ever one you advise me)

Also regarding flashing the firmware - I dont need a flash tool then????

Thanks again - hopefully I will soon be there with this one - my BenQ is new and I don't want to wreck it (yet)

Thanks

No, you dont have to install all the firmwares inbetween.
In the zip you find an EXE, thats is the flasher with build in firmware.
en P or T? mhhh both are good, but a lot of people have just some better results with the P firmware. (less errors when you scan your newly burned dvd with nero dvd-speed of dvdinfopro).

But we are all waiting for more info about the new U firmware wich is beta now with some testers.
