Sony 710UL

Postby newbfh on Tue Feb 01, 2005 12:13 am

Hell all, my first time on the boards

I just purchased a sony 710ul. I bought an external drive because I have a laptop. My laptop is a 2.3 P4, it came with a built in sony Dvd+r 4x. I have been ripping and burning dvd's for a little over a month with some good success. I decide however that my drive was just to slow so I purchased the new sony. THis is where my problem begins.

I use DVD Shrink to load the dvd to my hard drive. When I do so with my new sony drive i get a rate of about 3,500 KB/s I though perhaps this should be faster. This takes me about 25 minutes for a full movie with no menus or subs removed, I like full movies. I burn using nero 6 the newest version and the full version, I did not load the version that came with my new drive because I already had this one.

The problem is my friend has the same drive and it only takes him about 3 mintues to burn a disc after he uses shrink , It is taking me about 30 minutes which is the same time i was geting with my 4x writer. Any suggestions would be appreciated

You're only getting 3,500 KB/s when reading a DVD? If so, that is pretty slow. Are you using USB or FireWire to connect it to your computer?

Odd. Is it all DVD's or one in particular? What firmware? Have you tried running a benchmark with something like CD Speed (www.cdspeed2000.com)?
