Wow, I just visited the Plextor 712A page and it says "End of Life".

I guess I'm doomed...

Seriously, does that mean no future firmware updates?

I don't think so as it only says "End of Life" for the 712A. The 712SA and UF do not have that classification and all of them use the same firmware.

End of Life means that the drive can no longer be ordered from plextor.
So the stores that have it can still sell them but there will be no new ones send to stores.

ABout plextor and support.
Plextor has been wellwilling enough in the past to support drives that had been more then a year old and which were also out of life.
There policy is if it still needs a fix we will do it.
Now this sounds very nice however they first need to think that there is something needed to be fixed which sometimes ain't easy. :-?

Currently I'm getting fantastic quality burns on 4x Verbatim +RW on firmware 1.05.

If I update to 1.06 and I'm not happy can I flash it back?

Thankx, Rich
