Which is better DVD+R or DVD-R(for whatever reason)?

I just ordered my new NEC 3520A 16x , and some 16x dvds from the egg.

I got DVD+R primarily to use in my new dvd car deck, which is better? Or does it not matter?

my RCA COMBO/DVD/VCR does not play any DVD+R's but can play DVD-R's and i do have other dvd players that play all types of dvd format. i say that the dvd+r's have better quality but the dvd-r's are more compatible to more dvd players. my luck stunk with the RCA COMBO.

There are so few differences between the formats it really comes down to what works in the units you're going to be playing them in.

I also have found -R to be a tiny bit more compatible than +R. I've just started experimenting with bitsetting, which helps compatibility a lot, but why not just burn -R in the first place instead of worrying about bitsetting??

And I think the problem isn't so much that +R's are higher quality, it's just that for whatever reason there is a lot of crappy -R media out there. (I've heard everything from "+R standards are harder to meet" to "-R sells so much more that's where the money is") You just have to be careful what you're buying, look for Made in Japan media of EITHER type (+/-)

DVD-R is better in compatibility with older drives.

Some specifications between DVD-R and DVD+R are different, but I don´t think that one format is better than the other. If you buy cheap DVD´s you may have bad quality, no matter if you buy +R or -R.

That one has always struck me as +R propaganda. Fact is that most of the bad -R and +R media is unlicenced, so whatever standards may be there they're being ignored anyway on illegal media!!

+R standards are better but like said by jase who these days cares to do product verfication and have a product that comes through this verification.

Good +R is actually a little bit easier to make. For both there is a lot of propaganda claimeing that it's easier so be carefull what you look at.
But the differences are small. +R however is cheaper to make thanks to no copy protection being burned on it. (WIth +R this is handled of by the drive not the disc !)

Which formats is more populair in Asia ?
DVD-R so you get more HongKong Taiwanese manufacturers that focuss on -R first.

From the technical point of view +R is a little bit better but then again they took there time (it's newer).
In reality however you will not withness this small technical difference.
It's just pure theoretically.

In the end it's the manufacturer who decides if a disc is good, not the format.
