Fuji and TDK buy from several manufactures, including TY. Like Jim said, look for made in Japan if you want TY.

If anyone is looking for a retail boxed DVR-A09XLB, it's going for a $100 after $30 rebate at Best Buy.

Not all made in Japan media is made by Taiyo Yuden  (but Fuji should be).

Or Unifino, or Mitsui, or Sony (very rare). Probably more as well

If it's a big name like Fuji or TDK or Maxell, then yes It's probably good to buy if it says Made in Japan. But it's not really a blanket statement that all things Japanese are going to be Taiyo Yuden

BigMonkey,

All but two of those are pretty obvious I think. Mitsubishi is Singapore, Ritek with Ricoh technology is for the Ricoh code discs. CMC is CMC. Taiyo Yuden is TY from Japan.

As for the 2 less obvious ones (one from Taiwan and one from France), they're both made by the same company. Who do you know with a manufacturing plant in both countries? (sorry, I can't help more then this).

Thanks guys! :)

I'm thinking about compiling a list of all manufactures, country of origin, clones and who they supply, unless this has already been done by someone??? Do you think it would be of any benefit for the forum?
