Here in Europe we even have 32x 700mb verbatim rewritables.

The grass is allways greener on the other side.

No 10x DVD's won't allow you 16x. They might allow you 12x but that's it.

From the media listed I would go for Verbatim because you have the guarantee that it's MCC technology. Maxell also is probally MCC technology but can also be other Ritek for example.
Sony can be MCC, Acer/benq/daxon or can be manufacturer unknown because of a generic code. Most is Acer/benq/daxon.
Imation is CMC I think.
Now the best rewritable technology disc's I ever used are MCC there the only ones that survive a lot of rewrites (more as 100. A lot of rewritables weren't able to last longer as 10 times ) and never give me any compatability problems. Also error levels are significant lower as the competition !!. Infact it's the only rewritable media I trust.
So get the verbatims.

No, the slower cd-rw disc speeds will stop at about 12x.

For 16x-24x you need to buy a disc that is rated at 16x-24x.

The 32x RW discs are hard to find. But look around. They are out there.

i don't belive there is such a thing as 12x Verbatim. only 10x.
the reason is that there isn't an official 12x CD-RW standard. only 10x.
however many drives can burn these 10x CD-RW dicsc at 12x.
other brands/manufacturers aren't as careful with the details!

you can't burn these 10x (12x) CD-RWs at 16x. it's a different standard and incompatible.

persoally, i've used mainly Verbatim and have very good experience with them, many rewrites and no problems.
also use 1 CDRW disc made by Daxon (Asus brand - came with a drive) and so far it's working very well too.

If anyone in the US wants 700MB 32x discs, here is an auction on ebay. They are packaged under the Mitsubishi label.

Why they never relesed these as 700mb in North America I'll never know.

Just like the 32x discs. 650mb only over here.

First taiyo yuden does not make rewritables.

Imation hasn't used Taiyo yuden for a long time.
It's mostly CMC and MBIL these days.

DVD-RW from TDK are indeed very good.
