IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service - do I need it? (I got Nero)

Postby btiger on Sun May 22, 2005 1:30 am

Xp Pro SP1 question....seems like everytime I use my DVD burner, there is a event log created (and it's already in the 50s just for today!), can I turn this thing OFF? I did some google and it's a built in CD burning thing with XP Pro? I already have Nero full pkg installed. (if I'm to disable this service, does that mean I would not be able to burn CD/DVD using Nero?)

Thanks

You don't need it and it may interfere with packet writing. See Disabling Windows XP's built-in burning engine, in particular this post on how to disable it.

Thanks MediumRare :D

I'm quite happy with Nero and such I don't need another burning software.

And to reassure you, Nero does not use IMAPI to record so disabling IMAPI will not cause problem on the contrary it will simplify Nero's work (by eliminating interference from IMAPI).

However, I think some media recognition from Windows Explorer are based on the IMAPI service functionnalities. These might not work anymore after disabling IMAPI.
