Problems burning DVD+R DL disc

Postby PaulAlex7000 on Sat May 28, 2005 1:13 am

The Nero History Log file is below.

Basically, trying to get a Pioneer A10 to burn data to Verbatim DVD+R DL disc. I thought I was getting farther in it burning a non-multi-session disc, but no dice.

Any ideas on this one? Thanks!

Why is DMA off on your HDDs? Enable DMA.. pretty sure that's your problem.

I'm not sure how to enable it -- the hard drives in question are connected to an Adaptec 1200 RAID IDE card. And neither the "SCSI" device or the disk drives themselves in the Device Manager give an option for DMA.

With non-native HDD methods (PCI cards, 3rd party chips not integreted into the mobo's Southbridge), Windows always recognizes optical and hard drives as SCSI. I have no clue as to whether there is a performance hit there since you don't have any DMA options...

Come to think of it, if it was an issue with DMA, shouldn't I be seeing problems when it comes to burning a single layer DVD+R disc. Or DVD-RW (in ISO format, not UDF).

I'm not good at reading the Nero error logs, but it seems it's having an issue with the second layer?

probably, if you were burning at 8x.

did you try Nero InfoTool (Configuration tab) ?
what does it say about DMA mode of the drives attached to the Adaptec IDE card ?

I was burning the DVD+R discs at 4x, so probably no chance of buffer underrun.

The Verbatim DL disc I was attempting to burn at 2.4x.

I launched it, and it did not say either way (DMA on or off) about the hard drives attached to the Adaptec card. It did say that DMA was on for both my Plextor CD and Pioneer DVD burner.

For what it's worth, looks like the Adaptec 1200A uses the Highpoint chipset, since the drivers being used are hpt3xx.sys.

Plextor is master on primary, and Pioneer is master on secondary channel (the main hard drive -- with the OS -- being a SATA drive attached to a Promise onboard controller).

The log file shows three errors.

THe first one comes as soon as it looks at the media, and reports a "KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST". And then it moves on and when our software issues it's first 'WRITE' command, the Recorder reports a 'Queue Again Later' error message, which means the recorder is busy and not accepting commands. It never recovers from being busy, so it's not accepting commands, and it times out with the "KEY_MEDIUM_EOR" message.

Do you have the latest firmware for your recorder? Have you tried different DVD DL media?

Regards

Hi Craig... I'm using firmware 1.5 (the newest), but had originally tried it on firmware 1.40.

I haven't tried any other DL media yet. What I'm using presently is the Verbatim 2.4x DL, purchased at CompUSA. And I bought two more 3-packs from Newegg.com, which I haven't tried yet.

I jumped the gun by buying this many Verbatim media because so many people said they didn't have any problems with Verbatim, and it's the only supported media by Pioneer that will burn at 6x DL (although I haven't tried that fast of a speed yet).
