RiData 16x DVD-R (RITEKF1) Media Results

Postby Ian on Tue Jun 14, 2005 2:35 pm

RiData sent me some of their new 16x DVD-R discs. Since I was bored at work, I figured I'd give them a try in my NEC ND-3520A. As you can see, they're supported at only 12x with this drive.

I don't normally test with the ND-3520A, but its the only drive I have handy. If the results are to be believed, the PI/PIF rates jump up considerably in the last zone.

I've had a hard time convincing people not to send discs to me like that or in envelopes.

Yup, same as mine... the first 4 had minor scratches on them, so I used the fifth disc for my burn test. See below.

I don't know *WHY* people send out special HARD TO GET media in the WORST POSSIBLE WAYS.

Oh well, I'm still happy to get my samples :D

Here's my burn test on it:

Since I hate posting tests using drives most people have NO idea how they compare in scanning discs, here is how the disc looks when scanned in my BenQ DW1620.

Here's the burn quality, as seen by the BenQ DW1640

Even though the drive supports RITEKF1 16x DVD-Rs at 16x, the WOPC limited the recording speed to 12x only.
