DVD (+ OR -) printable best deals for QUALITY media?

Postby VEFF on Thu Jun 16, 2005 10:55 am

Not having used DVD printable media before, I don't know who makes the best ones.
I am curious if any of you has seen decent deals for QUALITY media?

They will be burned with a PX-716A, so it should be media that the Plexy likes.

Thanks!
Burners only:

Verbatim 8x +/-

Postby shaun on Thu Jun 16, 2005 10:57 pm

Hox is right..the TYG03s are very nice....

I find that the Verbatim 8x +/- have a better quality coating for printing on...my results have been spectacular on my Epson Photo R300 (and the discs are up to snuff quality wise as well).

Back away...very quickly from anything labelled Prodisc...or Ritek...or Princo (which are all the most common inkjet printables in my neck of the woods).

Could please post the graphical presentation(picture) of one your DVD which you have printed with Epson 300 here we could see how is it look like. Thanks

You could not compare the visual differences by photo. Taking a picture of the disc would not accurately show you the printable layer's "performance". Even if the camera was really good, a lot of details can be easily missed if you are not able to personally inspect the disc.

As I have had the oppurtunity to sample the printing quality of quite some surfaces, I can deffinately say that I would not want to make my choices based off a photograph! For instance, one of the things that I always do when judging a printable surface is run my finger along it (unprinted) to see how smooth it is, and tilt in in several directions of the light, to see if there are crystallic elements to it (I don't know how else to put it, they look like tiny reflective crystals). But I suppose I have to be pickier then the average person, since the discs I use are laminated afterwards, and even tiny imperfections can be magnified by the process (although they are STILL noticable when not laminated).

There's a sale at Costco in mid-Aug for TDK +/- 100pks Buy one get one free coupon, currently at $42 per pack. Anyone know if these are good quality? I heard TDK "-" discs were more consistant in quality. I'm burning on a Plextor 708 and/or NEC 2500. TIA

The Sam's Club deal sounds good.
Unfortunately I domn't have a membership.
I haven't even seen any around here.

My brother is a Costco member though - they were also mentioned in this thread.
