When to use which Nero Clean Tool & NVE3 patch

Postby Tinle on Wed Jun 22, 2005 1:57 pm

Nero provides the:

General Clean tool
Registry Checker & Drive Clean Tool
Nero 6 Clean Tool

I recently installed the May version of Nero 6, only to see that the June versions were released a few days later. It is installed on a new, unsued Gateway PC that will be a gift to someone, so I wish to update it.

I wish to install the latest versions (June 14th). In the past on my other machine, I have been just downloading the new version and running with it, without problems.

I would appreciate advice on the cleanest, most reliable way to install the monthly updates, and some better understanding of when one of the various "clean tools" should be used on an XP based machine running Version 6 of Nero. What are the differences between the various tools?

Second Question:

An "NVE patch" also known as SMCpatch.exe was released prior to the June 14th updates. Is it still necessary/advisable for a Nerovision user to both update to the June 14th version of Nerovision and also install the NVE3 patch? Does the latest update incorporate the patch yet?

Thanks

Hi Tinle,

I believe I've addressed your questions in response to a Personal Email you sent me. :D

But for those others on this forum who may come across this thread, here was my response.

The General Clean tool is the one you will use most of the time. The Nero 6 Clean tool is basically the same, but a more limited version of it. The Registry Checker & Driver Clean Tool are to resolve issue caused by other Recording programs that leave items behind after you uninstall them.

In most cases, if you're not experiencing problems you only need to download the latest versions of our software and install over the previous versions.

However, to be 100% sure, it's best to use the Nero General Clean tool to uninstall our software, and then reboot. Then install the latest download from our website.

Second Question: The latest version of our NeroVision software has this patch incorporated. Whenever we come out with a patch, this is only good for that version currently posted on the website and we always include all patches in the very next release of our software. So this patch is not needed by you anymore. We keep it posted as some users will not want to upgrade to our latest, so they will still need this patch.

Regards,

Craig
