Can't backup Battlefield 2 DVD

Postby Alektron on Thu Jul 21, 2005 2:15 am

I just bought Battlefield 2. The game forces you to keep the game DVD in the drive to play it. I want to avoid scratching the original copy because I don't want to replace it, so I decided to make up a backup copy as a wise precaution. So I used Roxio Easy Media Creator Basic 7, which came with my Plextor PX-716SA. I make the DVD backup just fine, and do it to a cheapie Nexxtech DVD-R 8x. When I get done without errors, I open and close the drive to re-recognize it, and begin the game. It tells me to check to make sure the game disc is in the drive! Obviously, there is some recognizeable difference between the original and the backup. A quick check to the backup with Windows explorer reveals that it appears to be a duplicate. I am guessing that there is an ID code that the drive is passing to the game software, telling it that the disc isn't the original. If this is true, can I change the ID? Do I have a practical solution to preserve my consumer's right to make a useable backup copy?

You probably need a specialised SW like CloneCD or Alcohol to back up the DVD.

with the latest 1.02 patch there still isn't a crack for the game

you'll have to download the cracked protection .iso file then mount it with daemon tools

the .iso isn't an iso of the game, just certain files that skip the protection in the game

to get started on the right way:
