Wrong question, Monte.

It is not how much that you need to donate.

It is: "How many others will donate a suggested amount?"

Maybe every 2 or 3 months we should have a reminder?

Most of the forum diehards donated and the InVue ads were removed for a month or two. Since then, we haven't gotten any donations. Everyone wants something for free.

I think a reminder might be in order.

I wouldn't say people expect everything in real life to be free, but you can expect nearly everyone in this field thinks nearly EVERYTHING should be free on the net. Not directed towards anyone here in particular (well, maybe hox, but he advertises it) but I would guess 99% of consumer CD/DVD burners out there are pirates in one form or the other.

Thus justifying what I like to call the "leecher's mentality" (I'm just a lowley user, noone will mind that I never pay for software, leech all day without sharing anything, and absolutely refuse to pay for anything virtual besides my internet and newsgroup bill [and even that I'll try to dick around with my ISP]).

Sad but more than likely true. Much props to you Ian (and rest of CDRLabs crew). I go nowhere else for my burner reviews :)

I'm among the "...........most of the forum diehards donated............."

However, that is not to say that I consider it to be a one time deal, I donate to other boards on an annual basis. However, as the subject has arisen again, I'm prepared to make a sem-annual donation (the first was early last Feb.).

I'll match Hox $ for $ every August, starting now, in addition to an annual in February.

Well, the banners aren't annoying... it's the moving window ad, and pop under ads that are annoying.

No, I use "Roger that" alot. It was reflexive.

But I hope that they don't do away with the flashing ad in the upper right.

We're testing a new advertising system, the contextual links you'll see on the main page and in the articles and reviews. The text links that bring up the boxes when you hover over them. They're supposed to be relevant to the pages they're on in combination with the words that are actually linked.

Let me know what you think, I'd like to put them in the forums as well but would like to get some feedback from you guys first before we do anything like that.

oh my god...
i just hate those contextual links....
but hey, if then bring in money, i'll get over it :D

as for in the forums, i don't think i've seen that before. i mean other websites i've seen this contextual link thing, i've seen it in reviews etc. but not forums.
is it a significant difference between including/excluding the forums ?

I've heard about this plan. Didn't you originally find out about the details from that get rich quick book by Robbin D. Banks?
