It's about time they posted the specs. I also heard that this drive will have a new loader, much like the new loader in the SOHC-5236K (quieter, and a sturdier but slower tray).

Hello!

More important than the loader is: Can Liteon improve the writing-quality?

NOTE:
the drive's name is not SOHW-1635S. it is SHW-1635S.
a new naming scheme ?

I heard ages ago that Lite-On was going to use a new drive design, but hadn't seen anything until now. code65536, do you know what chipset it uses? VIA?

Not entirely sure myself. The best I can give you are guesses and rumors...

1/ About a year ago, I heard a rumor that they were going to move to a new chipset. IIRC, it was Ali. I could be wrong (esp. since this was just a rumor).

2/ A couple of months after hearing that, I heard another rumor that Ali got bought out by MediaTek.

3/ Ali chipsets, IIRC, use the 8051 instruction set, which is what MediaTek uses. This means that LiteOn can probably adapt their existing MediaTek firmwares to Ali chipsets without TOO much trouble, and it would also facilitate in MediaTek assimilating Ali technology, assuming that the second rumor had any merit of truth.

These are all rumors, so I'd take all this with a grain of salt. The last I heard, LiteOn will still be sticking with MediaTek and that the chipset used in the 5S will be somthing similar to the chipset used by the Samsung SH-W162C.
