Wow, awesome price! and that was FAST!

Is the US only getting the DVD-RAM capable model? That's the biggest reason I want one of these (while I like my LG, I think Pioneer makes better burners overall). I'd hate to 'accidentally' (due to bad website info) get the non-DVD-RAM version...

Hopefully they'll get a retail version soon. Shoot me, I like the A0x styling. ;)

I think there's a good chance this drive will support the new 16x dvd-ram spec. since its using the new NEC chipset that will have support in the next NEC drive (4450). Not for a while though :)

So what are the general thoughts on this vs the Benq 1640?

the Benq has improved a lot since all of its FW updates, so it has a clear edge.
On the other hand DVD-RAM support is nice, and then the possibility of 16x DVD-RAM =P~ chocolate frosting. I'm not too impressed with those scans, and it looks like he used a slow speed to burn them (but I'm not sure).

That second link I posted has a lot of media scans. I don't know why they used 4x to burn those discs.

Because they're rated at 4x?

Personally, I'd like to see more tests with 16x media.

A link at Newegg, since a search for DVR-110 doesn't come up with it (it didn't for me at least):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827129165

Black: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827129164

Is there some law that OEM Pioneer drives need to be ugly as crap?

ZZF has the real one in stock for $58 with free 2DA shipping. It's not as if Newegg has unheard of service compared to ZZF either...

Well smartass since some people here work in the industry, it is safe to assume that there is some scuttlebutt floating around about the 110.

Eye rolls are effective when they are used with a dash of common sense.

I ordered one that is due to arrive Monday. I swear I ordered the plain 110 but when I checked the invoice it's now listed as Pioneer DVR-110D!
Let the Buyer Beware.
Curiously, on the ZZF info page for the drive it lists 5X DVD-RAM for BOTH read and write.
Checking the "First Look" at CDFreaks, the drive appears to only read DVD-RAM at 2X.

Yeah, supposedly the DVR-110 can read and write to DVD-RAM at 5x and the DVR-110D reads at only 2x.

I was under the impression that Pioneer was going to release the 110D at first and then hold off on releasing the 110 (with -RAM support) for later in the year...

Why is Pioneer always behind the curve in CD-R burn speed on their DVD burners? Seems like a year ago they had 32X and Lite-On had 40X, now they have 40X and Lite-On has 48X. I guess it might just come down to a decision of CD-R burn speed or DVD-R DL burn speed.
