Branded vs Unbranded (Media): Does it matter?

Postby AxBattler on Sun Aug 21, 2005 12:32 am

Assuming they are manufactured by the same manufacturer, and carry the same code (e.g. TYG02), does it matter matter if the media is branded or not? Discounting the possibility of fakes as well.

Thanks in advance.

my opinion is no it doesnt especially with TY as you said excluding fakes. Then again there is some really bad media sold unbranded that is genuine but sucks. Verbatim for example unbranded MCC code discs can be horrible while made in singapore branded are great.

I would say very much so, yes.

With branded media, you get a much better chance of knowing what grade the disc is. With Taiyo Yuden, this is LESS of a problem then with most brands... but with Verbatim, Prodisc, Optodisc, Ritek, and Moser Baer, the chances of getting B grade are quite high, so it's good to know what you're getting before hand.
