That's the DQ60, not the DW1650.... VERY different!

The DQ60 is known for not having nearly as good writing quality as the DW1640... but I would be lying if I said I didn't want one anyways

Is this drive an OEM from someone else? I am looking for a good DVD-RAM drive that also will be a good general burner. I've been leaning towards the LG 4167 (or the Pioneer A10XL, if it ever exists).. but this is interesting.

Will the 1650 hit US shores?

It's good to see that the DQ60 has finally started to ship in the US. What is that, only 2 months after the Japanese release?

The DW1650 will ship in the US... eventually. If I had to guess, I'd say we'll see it in January.

This is what I heard back from BenQ regarding their new drives (DQ60, DW1650 and DW1655):

Speaking of the sample, I’m actually preparing DW1655 for you. For DQ60 and DW1650, I’m afraid there is no sample for review.

Though you maybe able to find DQ60 in the US, it’s still not a global launch product which may confuse users if there is any review.

It makes me wonder if maybe the DQ60 was not expected to "launch" in the US... maybe NewEgg is importing it "Grey Market" in order to fill demand?

As for the DW1655, I'll have it fairly soon... but the review (as always) will take a while

By launch, they probably mean a retail product. Like NEC, they probably have no problems selling to the OEM market.

I am kinda surprised that BenQ hasn't released a firmware update for the DQ60. Almost 2 months and nothing?

It doesn't seem like a drive they really want to support :o

I'm expecting much better from their DW1655 and DW1650 drives though.... but I'm getting the impression BenQ wants to push the DW1655 as thier dominant drive, and just have the DW1650 as a secondary drive in smaller volumes. That's just an assumption on my part. At the very least, I just hope they keep the firmware updates equal for both drives (since they've told me about 10 billion times it's the same hardware for both drives, +/- the lightscribe stuff).

Yeah, the DW1655 seems to be their flagship drive. I'll probably buy one for myself.. just for the sweet ass bezel.

Maybe they really don´t want to support a drive with Matsushita-chipset :o ?

The writing-quality looks not good, so this is maybe the reason that Benq don´t shipping a drive for a review?
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

There may be some truth to that.... I may get one anyways though :P

It depends, if the DQ60 has Canadian distribution, then I'll get BenQ Canada to send it to me  I normally deal with BenQ Taiwan for quicker/better answers and support, but I'll go local if I need to also :D
