gigarec is plextor only. You wouldn't want to use gigarec to make high quality cd burns anyway, so look elsewhere.

Actually, you can get supposedly get better quality burns with Gigarec. Instead of shrinking the pits, it makes them larger. Of course, you can't fit as much though.

Personally, I just use good media and a drive that gives decent results.

Like Ian said, Gigarec don´t make better quality.

Yamaha had some drives with Advanced Audio Master Recording. Yamaha said it makes better Audio-quality but I´m not sure whether this is hearable.

What you want is very low burn-induced jitter. This is not very useful with good CD players, only with very crappy ones you can hear a difference with high CD jitter. If you can hear any at all. This is a very controvesial topic as no double-blind testing has ever proven that there could be an audible difference, ever. Just like the audible difference between different CDR brands. People claim they hear a difference, but when in double-blind testing suddenly they don't hear it anymore.

I think you didn't mean "Gigarec" (which allows overburning) but "Varirec" (which in theory allowed better recording quality , jitter-wise, but I've never seen - or heard any proof of this).

The NEC 4550A and 3540A, both DVD burners (strange!), give most excellent jitter results (steady 7.5%), up to @32X with good CDRs. These are my favorite audio CDR burners, together with high-end Plextors.

The Plextor 740 being a rebadged Benq 1640, and this drive being rather mediocre for audio CDR writing as far as jitter is concerned, avoid it. Also Pioneer burners are not great in this area.
