How to backup Liteon 165P6S firmware

Postby M17 on Wed Mar 29, 2006 8:56 pm

I want to backup the current firmware on that drive.

Will I be able to flash it back to the prevoius backup version if the current version isn't working out?

Are there known problems with the MS0M firmware that was released on Feb 24 2006, the latest release.

Thanks

There's a problem with the leadin when writing to DVD-R media. There is a test firmware floating around out there that fixes the problem. Keep in mind, its not an official release so there might be other problems.

At present, you have to use XSF, a DOS-mode utility to backup the firmware (or restore it) - this is not difficult, but a lot of people are not comfortable with DOS.

The latest official version (MS0M) is also available at the codeguys' site in a form that will let you go back from the test firmware that Ian mentioned.

DVD-R leadin problem sucks. Liteon should address it with proper firmware.
MediumRare thanks for info, I have no problem using dos, it just has been a while.
Did anyone try the "EEPROM Utility for LiteOn/Sony Drives" also from codeguys. Is it any good?

Thanks
