TDK "Scratchproof" media

Postby MonsterMan on Fri Sep 22, 2006 5:02 pm

Newegg has 'em, $36 for a 50 pack.

Seems like a good deal if these are the "Armor Plated" discs of old. Are these the same as their super-expensive archival media?

TDK made their own Armor Plated 4x DVD-Rs...I'm hoping these are just as good.

Can't get to the #$!@ing bank right now, so can't deposit my check thus can't order any

I will ASAP, though...several.

NOT an ATI fanboy - or really, even an ATI fan (their drivers freakin' suck!).

So, nope, no crossfire. I'm not a fan of either SLI or Crossfire. I'd rather have on fast card than two cards. SLI is, however, vastly superiour to Crossfire, for sure.

Why did I get it?

1) It has e-SATA. Yeah, easy to add. Nice to have onboard, though.
2) Board layout. Very, very nice layout. Better than most.
3) Power draw - draws ALOT less power than nF4, and runs cooler.
4) OC ability. Hell, the chipset was DESIGNED to run a 50% overclock :o
5) Got a really good deal on it ($129, not $160). So, only about $25 more than the Asus SLI board (which was the only other mobo I was looking at).

The fact I'm selling my mobo+cpu for around $200 means this is a fairly cheap upgrade.

Besides, I have an X1800XT, so I figured an ATI chipset would go better with it than an nVidia one :) (although I've had zero issues with my current nF4 rig).

This review was a big factor...

Yeah, I wanted C2D - badly. It's a hell of alot better CPU. But, this way I can keep my memory, and save quite a bit of money there. I'll jump on Intel's Core 2 Quadro or whatever they end up calling their quad-core towards the middle/end of next year.

good man, i agree with most of your points, especially the $hitty ati drivers

since you have an ati card already i can agree with wanting a ati chipsetted mobo

There's a good chance that these were not made at TDK's own Luxembourg facility, but rather outsourced to MBIL. It's been many months since TDK ceased manufaturing in Luxembourg. Those spacers don't look like TDK Luxembourg spacers to me!

MBI, huh?

Good news for me!

(BenQ 1620, Imation "Force Field" scratch resistent DVD+R, Moser Baer, @ 8x - another reason I love my BenQ's :) )

Not so sure about that one because it are the old 8x disc's.
