Is this Taiyo Yuden media fake?

Postby pranav81 on Thu Nov 23, 2006 2:15 am

Hi guys.I was recently visiting my regular computer shoppe and found that the guy had cheap DVD-R media for sale. The brand was Akari. It came in a spindle of 50 DVD's.The guy was selling the media for Rs.12,i.e.,only 26 US cents.

When I got home,I checked the media using SmartBurn 3.1.1.6.It reported the media from Taiyo Yuden, media code was TYG02.Loose Sony media is sold at about Rs.28,i.e.,62 cents a piece.

I burnt some data, movies onto the disk and it seems fine.I havent run any error tests on it yet.

What do you guys think? Is this media fake?

Judging by the brand and price, they almost certainly not authentic Taiyo Yuden. However, the only way to be sure is to check the the disc's stamper code. Real TYG02 media will have GG00xxx stamped just inside the purple part of the recordable side. If you don't see this, they are definately fake.

Here's a good pic of what I mean.

Thanks [buck].

The media I have is a fake,as it has 307T stamped in that area.I bought only a couple of them to check them out.

I dont get TY media here easily,so was surprised to find one.I usually go with Sony DVD+R 16X.I usually get the jewel cased one's for Rs.35 or 78 US cents.

Thanks.

Thanks.I thought it appropriate to change the avatar as MS has launched Vista offically.

I am happy with the RC2 version of Vista.

What about you?Have you tried Vista?
