CDRLabs DVD Writer Poll - March

Postby Ian on Sat Mar 03, 2007 9:11 am

Vote for what you think is the best, all around DVD writer. By doing so, you'll hopefully help those looking to buy a new drive. Once again, I tried to chose original drive designs that are currently available or will be soon.

Feel free to leave comments and an explanation as to why you voted the way you did. Also, if there's a drive you'd like to see added to the poll, let me know.

For reference, here's the top drives from February's poll:
1. Pioneer DVR-111/A11
2. LG GSA-H22N/L
3. Lite-On LH-20A1H/LH-20A1P/LH-20A1S
4. Pioneer DVR-112/DVR-A12

I dropped the BenQ DW1680 from this month's poll as no one seems to be voting for it. The other BenQ drives will probably go soon too if they don't get any votes. Same goes for the LG GSA-H30N/L and Lite-On SHM-165H6S/SHM-165P6S.

I also added the ASUS DRW-1612BL and DRW-1814BLT as they are original drive designs and seem to be getting popular. The DVR-212 has also been added to the entry for Pioneer's 12 series.

From what I can gather, ASUS has designed them. It wouldn't be the first time they've done that.

I voted for the LieOn SHM-165P6S in the past, but it isn't readily available any more. I see no point in voting for a drive I haven't tried personally, so I'll pass this time.

When I want a top drawer burn, I still slip a disc in the LG H22N, so it gets my vote again. The Pioneer 112D is threatening however, does slightly better DL(Verb) burns, if it continues to test well my vote may change next month.

My vote goes for the Plextor PX-760A/SA because:
- The PX-755/760 it is still the only drive family giving consistent and reliable PI/PO scans with Plextools
- with the new AS-Striker utility exclusive to the PX-760A/SA, the AutoStrategy feature is now a lot easier to use
- Plextor's 2 years fast warranty and service (in Europe)
- on top the Sata model 760SA works when it is connected to a Sata port on most of the mobos, which is not always the case with other brands !
A least Plextor publishes Sata compatibilty lists ...

Uh oh, with the Pioneer votes split between the 111 & 112, a dark horse may slip up the middle to win
