Problem burning DL DVDs (Benq DVD DW 1640)

Postby rahul.sardesai on Fri Mar 07, 2008 4:35 am

Hi,

I don't if this is the correct place, but I looked over the forum and didn't find a tech support kind of place to post, hence I've posted here.

I recently bought Moser Baer 8X DVD+R DL media. When I tried burning the images that I had I kept getting an error message. I thought at first it maybe due to my firmware being out of date. I updated the firmware to the latest one that I could find (BSRB). But I still get the error. Ruined about 4 discs trying. :(
I tried going through the nero burn log to see if I could find something, but it all looked like greek to me. I was hoping someone over here could help me out with this. I've attached the log as well. And thank you in advance for the help.

Rahul

KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR suggests that the problem is media related. Have you tried writing at a slower speed, say 4x or 2.4x?

Plus the DW1640 is a pretty old drive... and may not be compatible with the media you are using. I use my DW1640 just as a scanner these days.

I tried writing at a slower speed but got the same error. Maybe it's time to buy a new drive :)
Any recommendations?

If SATA is an option, the Samsung SH-S203B... if IDE, probably the Pioneer DVR-112D or DVR-115D.

I thought all the later firmwares for the 1640 were junk. I still use BSLB. Maybe that would make a difference. Would at least be worth a try? I wouldn't scrap your BenQ.

Agreed, I would not scrap that drive, it's a classic and an excellent scanner.

triple agreement here. if that benq 1640 has not been used much and u decide to move on, ill pay you to ship the drive to me... its still that good of a drive. ofc the fact that I have over 500+ verbatim mcc004 +r and sony branded +8 ?ty? media might be the reason I will continue to use my 1640 and Liteon 165p6s for sometime.

im also running bslb f/w on the 1640, but not sure on the f/w on the liteon...anyone know what the best f/w ended up being on that drive?

I'm quite happy with MS0R, the latest available for the 165P6S.

The very last FW for the 1640 helped DL burning quite a bit but they never were very good at DL for me.
My Pioneers, NEC, and some of the LG's do a better job if you want to burn any crappy DL media that's out.
