BD-RE 2X buring slow at 1X....LG GGW-H20L

Postby MichaelT1960 on Tue Oct 21, 2008 8:56 am

My LG GGW-H20L will only burn the the Blu-ray BD-RE 2X disk at 1X and it takes about 3 hours to do so. Nero initially reports that it will take 45 minutes to burn the 23 GB of data (8995 KB/s) but as time goes by it ends up being close to 3 hours! I am burning large (500 - 800MB) video files for data storage. No transcoding is taking place...just writing the raw files to disc.

I have a Abit IP35 Pro MB with a Core2 Duo running at 3.2Ghz and 4GB of RAM. Using a Seagate SATA 3.0GB/S drive along with an LG GGW-H20L burner and Verbatim BD-RE 2X disc. I have also tried Ridata and LG discs and all burn at the same slow RE rate

Nero 8 Ultra is the program being used although I don't think it is the program hanging me up. The buffers are always mostly full so it has the data.

Could the BD-RE 2X disk limit write speed to 1X even though you can select a 2X speed in the recording software (Nero, ImgBurn)?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you,

Michael

Nero automatically verifies the data so it looks like its writing at 0.9x instead of 2x. I think there's an option to disable that but I don't know what it is off the top of my head.

Ian,

I am pretty sure the verify is not selected but I will check to make sure.

The verify box is available when the writing is actually taking place. That is NOT checked.

I selected in advanced options to display actual writing speed and it show less then or equal to only 1X just as I thought. The time remaining at start is still 40 minutes (the 2X estimate time).

For some reason something is limiting the speed of the LG writer to 1X even thought the disk is supposed to be good up to 2X.

Has anyone had this problem???

Thanks,

Michael

It's a different verfication option. That one just compares the files when you're done.

I'll have to check later and see if I can find the option. Otherwise there was a registry hack for Nero 6 that sped things up. I'm not sure if it works with Nero 8 but it might be worth a try.

If you want to try Imgburn, you need to check this box:

I believe this is the option you want to look for in Nero. You'll want to uncheck it.

Ian,

You are a genius! :D :D :D I now am able to write at 2.2X with the BD-RE disk! How come couldn't anyone else solve this problem including LG's Tech Support?

I have posted the same question on http://www.afterdawn.com with no responses. You guys on CDRLabs are the best!

Thank you! :D :D :D
