Writing Quality Result - Samsung SH-S223Q

Postby NightS on Sun Feb 08, 2009 11:21 am

Hi all, I´m totaly new to this site. So greetings

Had to buy a new DVD burner cause my old one (5 years or something, brand ? don´t remember) wasn´t able to do DL at all, so I was looking throught the internet in search of some qualified data, which would help me to decide.

Then after a lot of searching I thought I bought a Samsung SH-S203B but tada system tells me it´s a Samsung SH-S223Q in the end.
Wasn´t very happy with that in the beginning, cause i red very mixed comments about that one.

So now after enabling the S223Q in the registry for Nero DiskSpeed I did some testing which I´d like to share, cause I realy appreciated the test in this forum for gaining knowledge about good burning ...

Wow those are some great results. I hate to admit it, but I haven't done much with my SH-S223Q yet.

Yeah was suprised myself

But after I read the FAQ about quality scans I was kind of curious what my old drive had been and reinstalled it. And oh yeah Lite On - LDW-811S.

So I did some more scanning (but what a pitty until now the disk already has a small scratch at the end of the disk, which is quite obvious in the scan)

Quite strange is the 1x scan of the Lite On LDW-811S compared to the 4x for the same disk

If you can find a old BenQ drive I think you might get a more accurate scan, I trust my 1640/1655 scan much more then the scans I got from my S203b when I tried it. The 203 is very forgiving of errors so scans looked much nicer from it.
Your scans do look very good though, you must have gotten a good sample.

BenQ 1640/1655 is realy hard to get, just got beaten for the only ebay.de auction today.
Now there still is one 1650 I can bet on or several Plextor PX-716A and Plextor PX-760A, also seam to be good quality testers ?!?
Would be nice if I could get an opinion on those 3.

I think any of those are pretty good honest quality test machines. Luckily I was buying BenQ's from their very first 16x burner and just kept stepping up so I have a few around that still work fine. I always use my 1655 for quality testing though I may slap my 1640 back in as it does DL tests faster.
If you really want one keep watching EBay as sooner or later a deal will slip into your hands.

I really don't like this drive. The CD-R writing quality is horrible. I've gone through two drives and neither can burn CD's without C2 errors.

Don't burn CD's with it.
I use one of my others for that work. Sony is aware the CD portion has issues.
