Sony CRX195E1 (LiteOn 40125) Problem

Sony CRX195E1 (LiteOn 40125) Problem

Postby Miho Ariga on Thu Jan 01, 1970 3:28 am

Hi folks,

Just bought a Sony CRX195E1 and found problems in burning.

First, my Yamaha 20X KHS disc cannot be used anymore. I tried
to burn with 8X/12X/16X write speed, Nero all reported successful but
the disc cannot be read at all (even on CRX195E1).

Second, try Sony 32X CDR (model 50CDQ80SP3). Strange enough,
still unreadable if I burn with 32X write speed (Sony writer does
not work on Sony disc). Eventually, I burn the 32X CDR with
16X write speed, it works fine.

Any idea ?

The same problem happens on LiteOn 40125, of course, they are basically the same stuff.

My CRX195A has the newest firmware ZYS5. Also, UDMA is turned on. I've tried That's CDR and can burn with 32X speed successfully. Seems that CRX195A is very "selective" for CDR :(

Anyone tried any CDR which can burn up to 32X ~ 40X ? Will like to know. Thanks.

Miho, would you mind backing up your firmware and sending it to me? I will explain how to do it if you'd like me to.

I have the same drive with the original firmware, dma enabled and use the latest version of Nero. I can burn at 40x just fine with Imation. I've used their 24x and 1-48x, no problem.

Original firmware as in ZYS2, or ZYS5? Gawd, someone please back up ZYS5 and send it to me! :D

Instructions for Backing Up:
Download this and put everything in it onto a floppy disk. After you have done this, you will have a boot disk with mtkflash.exe on it. Now turn off your computer. while the computer is off, insert the boot disk that you made into the floppy drive and turn the computer on. Your computer should detect the boot disk during the startup process and you should end up at a screen where you can choose from four boot options. You want none of those four options, instead, press Shift+F5 to get to the command prompt. You should end up at the "a:/" prompt and when you're there type "mtkflash 'x' r /b /m c:/back.bin". type either 1, 2, 3, or 4 in place of 'x' where you use 1 if the drive is on the primary channel and is set as master, 2 if it is on the primary channel set as slave, 3 if it is secondary master, and four if it is secondary slave. You can find out these things by looking at where the ribbon cable plugs in at on the motherboard, and by looking at the jumpers on the back of the drive. You may need to look at your motherboard's manual to find out which plug is primary and which is secondary, and you may also need to look at the sticker on top of the drive to see how the jumper is set for master, slave, or cable select. After the backup is done, the firmware binary will be located at on your c drive and will be called back.bin. so you can find it at c:/back.bin

Also, I remember somebody else having a problem with this drive and Sony sent them a new one with the ZYS5 firmware. After seeing that, I called Sony and they said ZYS2 is the only firmware there is.

Yeah, it figures that they'd say that. It could be that ZYS5 is for a different model, notice that he said "CRX195A". I have heard of "CRX195A", "CRX195E", "CRX195A1", and "CRX195E1" drives. If I ever get a copy of it, then I'll know.

No doubt. Mine says it's an A1 on the box, but Nero says it's an E1.
Thanks for all your hard work, be looking for the ZYS5.

My CRX195A1 has ZYS5, how do I back it up?

BTW, I too have the problem of discs not being readable after burning, even though CDRWIN & Nero finished writing successfully.

That was harder than I thot, but I got the ZYS5. Leave your email so I can send you. BTW the flash util was for windows me, doesn't work for xp.

Meanwhile, my sony crx195a1 has burned nothing but coasters (6 so far). DMA enabled, used latest Nero & CDRWin, turned off buffer underrun protection, makes no difference. It just burns unreadable discs period. I had to switch back to my old Acer 8X to burn anything.

That's it I'vd had it. 8 Taiyo Yudens wasted, more than all the coasters combined in 2 years with other burners. Sony is suck! >=[ I'm taking it back to store get my $99 back.

I just got off the phone with a Sony tech, guess what she told me. The CRX195A1 is NOT a lite-on drive, it's manufactured by Sony.

Sony Tech Support = LAF!!

It is a Lite-ON, do you think they would tell you that they don't make their own drives? I already have ZYS5 so I really don't need it. Thanks though.

Problem with Sony CRX195E1 CDRW Drive

Postby Amzer on Mon Nov 04, 2002 3:55 am

Hey,
I just bought this Sony Drive online & am unable to get it to work with Win XP. It is compatible with XP (so many websites say). It is detected during bootup. Altho, Windows doesn't see it until I refresh plug-n-play devices in the Device Manager. Following that, I am able to read cd's with it, but unable to burn cds. I've tried the burning software supplied with WinXP and even installed Roxio 5, but it says no burner could be found. I purchased the drive with no software. Anyone know of a special driver I need or where to get it? Is there any way around this? Thanks for any help u can offer!

:-?

The CRX195a1

Postby monkey661 on Sat Dec 21, 2002 4:35 am

i also have a crx195a1, so far it's been a good drive to me, it was fast burning full cds around 3 minutes, NOW, its been burning cd's around 10 minutes, that's as fast as my old 12x drive. I installed a new motherboard and had to reinstall win xp, does anyone have a clue why it takes so long now, to burn cd's? I tried various approaches, such as checking my bios and my dma's but to no avail. Im thinking it's the motherboard, so i dunno, any help is appreciated thanks.

CD not detected in crx195e1

Postby asifakamal on Sat Jan 04, 2003 5:24 pm

I have following cnfigurations
Sony crx195e1 internal drive.(40x/12x/48x )
Firmware Revision VS08
Windows 2000 Sp3
Easy CD Creator 5.3
Nero 5.5.10

Both Nero and Easy CD Creator detect my drive. Neither of them detect a CD insreted. I tried both empty CD and a valid working CD. Even Windows Explorer does not detect any valid CDs inside the drive even though it shows a drive letter for it and show the property with correct drive type.

I will appereciate your advice and thanks in advance.

Any CD .I tried Imation,Fujifilm,Memorex and other product CDs which work fine in my DVD drive.
Could it be complete failure of the drive itself? But then how all the softwares are detecting the drive and right type of it. Here is the detail

I installed the drive about 4 months back and it was working for few months.I used Nero to burn many Cds.
Then I noticed that Nero was failing on every CD towards the end of burning.( I dont know any event which led to this )
So I thought of trying other software - which was CDRWin4.0
I was not able to work with it becuase it could not detect the drive as it was not having ASPI drivers.
I tried different ASPI drivers and in process, I even corrupted my OS. I had to ultimately reinstall Win2k.
I now have newly installed Win2k and upgraded the firmware using the link in this thread. I have Nero and Easy CD Creator now.
BUt I still have same problem .

Any Ideas??

Thanks
