Lite-ON DVD 165 vs 166 - best buy?

Postby skinfreak on Thu Jan 01, 1970 6:31 am

OK...there is £1 difference between the drives. What is better in terms of features/compatability etc? The 165 vs the 166S? Help needed ASAP!

Thanks

There are no known practical differences. The specs are identical. But, if you have a choice, for only £1 extra I would get the 166S. I believe it has a larger flash memory, meaning sometime in the future there is a slim chance that it could be upgraded to do something the 165H can not (although I wouldn't hold my breath on this).

The 166S model has a new servo-motor. I think you should buy it, no need to buy an older model.

Ha ha...166S it is! Unfortunately, they've changed the damn bezel...so now I have to wait a hellish long time for Lite-on to send them to the UK! Dabs don't have them, tekheads neither....aw poo! :(

That said, the 166S is quieter than the 163, and the tray is much smoother in action...a step up for sure! Mmmmm...aesthetics...
