Nero w/Sony DRU-500A locks up PC

Postby boblx2 on Wed Nov 13, 2002 7:10 pm

This is a new one! All I have to do is open Nero with the Sony drive installed, select an action such as, disk copy, etc. Nero then locks up my system to the point that I have to power it down to get control of it. RecordNow works fine but Nero apparently balks at the Sony drive. It worked okay with my Pioneer A04 and it works okay with a Pioneer A05. I suppose because I have heard that the Sony drive is basically a +R drive that includes -R and Nero hates +R drives. I am running the latest version of Nero so I doubt there is a fix for it just now.

Anyone ever heard of this?..........

Nero w/Sony DRU-500A locks up PC

Postby LGumbiner on Wed Nov 13, 2002 9:32 pm

I had the exact same problem. My DRU-500A is connected to my computer through a Maxtor Ultra ATA 133 PCI adapter. I fixed the problem by installing the latest driver for the Maxtor adapter.

In any case, it sounds like you have a driver problem at the hardware level. I don't know of anything else that would make XP lock up like that.

Hope this helps.

You hit the nail on the head! I am also using that Maxtor adapter. It is certainly worth a try. I'll let you know if that tixes the problem.

Thanks for the help.........

Okay it looks like that did it. After I went out to Maxtor and got the driver and reloaded it into my system I was able to erase my +R/W and copy another disc to it. Before that if I even acted like that Sony existed when Nero was open the whole system would freeze so bad that I had to unplug the power to get control of it again.

Thanks much..............
