CDRW suddenly stops working til reboot

Postby joep2k on Sat Nov 23, 2002 3:00 am

after using my cdrw drive once per restart, the drive suddenly stops working (it disappears from "my computer" and the power doesn't work), it will not even let me eject,
I need to reboot to get it working again...can someone help?
it does auto detect on the bios and when i goto secondary ide drive it does appear as master in "DMA 2" mode, and there is no slave on the secondary.
I think this only started to happen after reinstalling winxp
ITs a digital research 241040 :x :x

Joep2K;

Look in to my tread (TCAS), you could find your problem is doublicate of mine, athough my problem has not being resolved yet, but some of the suggestion might be helpful to you. I will keep you posted if and when I happen to come up with solution for this strange case we both have.

For simplicity's sake, here is the direct link to the thread TCAS is talking about. :)

no power!!!

maybe a bad power cord.
or maybe a bad PSU. specifically, maybe it does not supply enough power. what is it rated at?

try checking the drive in another computer.

Got a splitter on the power cable? I've had a, um, "few" probelms with those stupid things on my system; I've got 4 hard drives on a raid, and the power would cut out on my and either a) lose the whole raid, or b) freeze the system. Usually (b). :( A bump to a 400watt PSU and new splitters, and the problems went away....

by no power...i meant won't eject or no lights or anything
which is probably what you guys meant.
i've got a 250 W supply
with 1 dvd, 1 cdrw one hd
i actually just switched from an older 8824 burner to this one
so that might not be the problem...
