AOPEN SATIATES USERS’ CRAVING FOR SPEED WITH INCREDIBLE NEW CRW5224 CD-RW DRIVE

World-Renowned Total Solutions Component Manufacturer Brings Lightning-Fast 52X/24X/52X CD Burner to North American Market

SAN JOSE, CA USA, December 2, 2002 – AOpen Inc. today announced its latest entry in the fast-moving CD-RW drive market – the new AOpen CRW5224 – which writes CD-R media at 52X; CD-RW media at 24X; and reads CD media at speeds up to 52X. As a result of these measurably increased speeds, PC users with the new internal AOpen CRW5224 drive installed in their systems will now be able to write a 700MB CD-R disc in less than three minutes.

According to David Ni, Director of Sales & Marketing, of AOpen Inc. Optical Storage Division, “Not only have we broken new barriers in writing and reading speeds with our new CRW5224 CD/ReWriter, we’ve also brought along with it our popular JustSpeed™ and JustLink™ technologies, as well as our “Speed-Boost Function” to make the CD burning process nearly fool-proof.”
JustSpeed Technology Optimizes high-speed recording greater than 16X, preventing writing errors by actually matching the write speed to the calibration of the CD media being burned.

JustLink Technology prevents buffer under-runs by predicting when writing interruptions may occur and literally takes control of the writing process. JustLink intentionally interrupts the write cycle until the buffer is able to refill – and writing is then resumed – exactly where it left off – all transparent to the user.

Speed-Boost is a manually-activated user option that reduces occasional noise and vibration that is sometimes encountered when playing certain types of CD media, by slightly decreasing the playback speed.

The AOpen CRW5224 is an E-IDE (ATAPI) drive that is mountable both vertically and horizontally for maximum installation flexibility and compatibility with various housing designs. It supports SPDIF (digital audio output); includes OPC technology to boost recording reliability; includes 2MB of data buffer memory; features upgradeable flash memory; and has easily-upgradeable firmware. All CRW5224 drives come bundled with popular NERO Burning ROM software. They also include InCD software, which provides an easy UDF packet-writing solution.

The AOpen CRW5224 features a one-year warranty and has an MSRP of $99 USD. It has an estimated street price of $89 USD and can be purchased through all authorized AOpen channel partners. Detailed specifications and photos of the drive are available by request. Took them so long to get to North America...Ian, any news of getting one of these in for review?

"Speed Boost", why would they call speed boost whereas the function is to slow the drive down for stability?

Yeah, lets just hope that AOpen decides to promote their new drive and send us one to review. Considering that they put out a press release, its very likely.
