Cendyne 48x12x48x at Officemax - $29.99 after rebate

Postby dbeko on Mon Dec 23, 2002 5:07 pm

I purchased a 48x Cendyne burner yesterday from Officemax. $89.99 retail - $40 off at the register - $30 MIR = $29.99

Is this burner a rebadged Lite-On? Thanks.

It's late, so maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but is this math incorrect? :)

$79.99 - $40 instant savings - $30 MIR...count me in! That's a final total of $9.99 for a Lite-On burner!

On the back of the Cendyne Boxes, there should be a label with the model number of the drive. If the model number starts with LTR, then you know your getting a Lite-On.

This is NOT a Lite-On drive; at least not the one that I purchased. A friend of mine in New Mexico purchased the same model at Officemax and he got a Lite-On (it auto-identifies itself as such in Windows Control Panel). <sigh> It still works fine.. :)

Did you check the label on the back before you bought it?

Not all Cendyne packages have this label, and even the specs are not too reliable as sometimes they will pack drives with better specs and leave the same label.

Hey but you can still return it if you don't want it. I think in officemax they have a 15 days no questions ask return policy. If you are not satisfied with it thats enough for them. The box has to have the upc.

I didn't as I'm new to this Lite-On rebadging thing. I started out with a Plextor 12x, then a TDK 24x (which is a Lite-On I believe) and now this Cendyne. I'm happy with it and going to keep it. ;)

Cendyne=Optorite

I've checked most of the OfficeMax stores in the Kansas City area, and most of them only have the Optorite-based drives...bummer. I did find a couple of the AOpen 48x12x50 drives, so I kept those...Looks like Cendyne has made a (semi)permanent switch...
