So about the 8481.. any good reviews on it? I plan to pick one up, but want to know how it stacks up to the other 48-52x drives out there.

I read a lot about 8481B for some time (but usually carelessly) only because it has been the bestselling CD writer in South Korea. 8481B is the best overall CD writer in my recommendation list. (SM-348B for CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-ROM combination drive.)

Buy it if it is very cheap for you. Don't buy it if it costs more than Lite-On's 48x/52x. LG seems to be late in introducing their 52x CD writers, 48/24/48/16 combo drives, and their next DVD writers on the retail market (and OEM too maybe.)

No. 8481 is 48x/24x/40x (I'm not sure about the read speed).

The 52x model has another number, maybe 8520.

URL for LG 8481B formware ; new V 1.05 firmware for 8240B...

Postby rafi_d on Sat Jan 25, 2003 5:15 am

Does anyone know a link for downloading the 8481B firmware ?
Also - I notices a new (?) 8480B firmware (V 1.05) at :

http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_firm ... ad_id=1453

http://www.lge.co.kr/open_data/1043038564390GCE-8480b105(KW).zip

Any idea what was modified (or improved) ?

Interesting! I would be glad to get the firmware if available.

Here is part of that cdrinfo site:
------------
szym grafie:

GCE-8320B -> GCE-8400B
GCE-8401B -> GCE-8480B
GCE-8481B -> GCE-8520B

----------------

Can anyone translate ? (sorry, some gibberish in it ...)
