Flash Memorex 52X to LTR52246S (NOT OC!). Any tips?

Postby VEFF on Tue Jan 14, 2003 9:58 pm

I haven't had a chance to look into this:

Has anyone flashed their Memorex 52Maxx to a LTR52246S (same speed, not OC, which I don't trust after our experiences with 32X and 40X to 48X)?

Thanks!

Many people have done it. It's not a problem (If you meant to say 48x instead of 42x). You must have the 48MAXXv2 which is 48x24x48, and not the regular 48MAXX which is 48x12x48!

If you have a firmware version other than SWS3, you should back it up first.

As far as the actual process goes, I recommend you use Dimitri's FlashFix program instead of the old mtkflash:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=8531

With FlashFix there is no need to extract the binary image from the firmware update executable or boot to DOS. Just be careful to select the correct drive to update once you have patched the firmware updater.

Sorry I have the 52Maxx. The '4' was a typo.
That is why I said it is the same speed as the LiteOn (both are 52X).

I don't want to overclock it, I just want to flash it as a LiteOn, so I can use the LiteOn firmware instead of the Memorex firmware because it is updated more frequently...

Thanks cfitz!
I'll search around for the correct binary tomorrow, after I install it; got to remove one of my other burners first :)

You don't need to search for a binary. Just download the 6S0A flasher from liteonit.com and patch it with flashfix.

Here is LiteOn's firmware download page:

http://www.liteonit.com.tw/english/e-down-f.asp

You will want the latest LTR-52246S firmware:

http://www.liteonit.com.tw/webfw/LTR-52246S/R526S0A.zip

Extract the 6s0a.exe file from zip file, then get FlashFix from Dimitri's site ( http://digi.web1000.com/ ) by following the "The LiteOn/JLMS DVD's pages" and "NEW: Allow a firmware to flash ANY drive with FLASHFIX" links to:

http://digi.web1000.com/flashfix.htm

Download FlashFix, read the instructions, patch the 6s0a.exe updater, then run it and enjoy your "new" LTR-52246S drive. :D

Oops. Looks like Dave beat me to the punch while I was raiding the fridge in the middle of writing my post. Anyway, like Dave said, no need to search for binaries...

Teehee, your post was much more detailed. I think I was in a hurry so I could go raid the fridge

Thanks guys.

I'll have to check it out :)
Sounds great!

I used mtkflash in the past on my LiteOn CD burners and LiteOn
DVD-ROM.

Flashfix seems even greater, since it can be run without having to boot into pure DOS.
