I also saw the same deal for a 100-Pack of Pine 700MB CD-R's for $9.99 with no rebates at BestBuy.com. However, the product is currently sold out and can't be picked up at Best Buy stores either. Wonder who makes them also. My guess is CMC.

Aha! They tricked you all! Pine 32X discs, the ones at Best Buy, are made by Postech.

Thanks guys!

Postech. Don't hear about them much.
I was curious, because there is no rebate, although I still have about
650 - 700 blanks still. That is after selling (VERY cheaply) 500 to my brother.
Been burning DVD-Rs lately, so I should probably not even bother...

Didn't think they'd be CMC. Pine are never that obvious. You just know you'll always get something a bit different with them ;)

My experience of Postech is positive. Old 12x Postechs burn happily at 32x and even 40x sometimes with few errors. I'm a little concerned about longevity (those hybrid-dye type discs (Princo, Postech, Gigastorage, Vivastar etc) were always a bit flaky) but they are very compatible and write well.

I bought some pine discs from bestbuy last year. Nero says they are Princo 24x discs. I bought them because they are completely blank with no graphics or writing on them. Just silver. But now I've realized that they absolutely suck... he he he

Yeah Princo discs are NASTY.

You wouldn't believe the hassle I've had from lamers who send me these evil Datasafe discs which are Princo. Everyone in the UK it seems thinks they're great just because they're ultra-compatible with audio players, DVDs and consoles. They just won't acknowledge that the flamin' things go duff after about six months. It doesn't help that they all seem to be taken in by the cult of Datasafe over here, a company who owns half the budget brands (even though they deny it) and also run a few "independent" media forums (although they say they only "sponsor" them, the owner of them in WhoIs is the same Asian gentleman who owns the websites of all the other Datasafe brands).

I give up. Folk are morons.

The printed graphic layer on my Princos scratches off really easily. I burned a couple cds to listen to at work and put them in my jacket pocket without a case for the 15 mile drive to work. When I pulled them out 2 of the discs had a bunch of the paint missing. Hell, the paint has come off these disc just from having them in a cd wallet.

It's okay though, I just use them as throw away discs now.

Update: Some (if not all) of the Pine 48X discs are made by Princo. Pine 32X are still made by Postech.

Are Postech disc made w/ a finger print surface or is there a matted surface?

If the Postech discs are Pine branded then they'll have a matte finish, if they are OEM or unbranded then they'll have a fingerprint surface.

Just a shiny silver surface where you can see your fingerprint if you touch it.

LOL the USA is dominated by the Cult of CMC = Cheaply Made Crap. I still get a lot of Imation/TDK/Memorex/Khypermedia/Philips/AT&T/Verbatim/Generic CMC CD-Rs in trades even when I tell them I only want TY (Fuji) made, some people just dont give a damn.

Last Pine CD-R I got my hands on was a Postech 16x, came in a slim case.

Warning! Princo's die if you get them wet - I had a Princo CD-R that stopped working when I accidently sprayed CD Cleaner on its top side - I think the cleaner ate into the top layer. Gigastorage (Cursor) are really lousy CD-Rs too.
