Beware! This firmware upgrade will be permanent. Seems that if you flash to it, you can't go back to an older firmware.

I've thought about it. But, in the past week, I have done T503 and T504. The 505...there's no going back. Right now, I am pleased that this drive also reads the DVD+R and DVD+RW that my Sony DRU-500a burns, as well as the DVD-R and DVD-RW. I fear losing that ability. Yet...Samsung only states that 505 improves readability. OK...but Plextor used specifics to help you judge.

I couldn't sit on it anymore. I downloaded the T505 and flashed it. So far, all CD functions are normal...reading up to 48X. CD-R functions are great 48X and CD-RW seems improved with Nero InCD. CD-RW's load much faster than with older firmware. As for DVD-ROM...the read speeds are much more consistent with slightly lower CPU usage. DVD-ROM's load faster as well. Used to take about 5-7 seconds. Now they load in 3. Also...can still read DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW. Load times for all DVD discs is quicker.

I e mailed Ian from the board a few days ago about erratic DVD-ROM read speeds when you get up to 15X+...seems the read speeds reach as high as 16.3X and are very stable now. If this is the case...who cares...flash T505 and don't worry about going back to an older firmware...they seem to improve with every release.

I will do that tonight when i get back home. Good thing it worked T504 seemed a little buggy for me. It held all my audio cd's in the drive until I ejected ti from my Computer. T504 seemed to disable my eject button on the drive so i went back to 503 now i am going to 505. Thanks for the info.
