Dell OEM SW240B is not the same drive as Samsung's retail?!

Postby Vasile Gaburici on Mon Feb 03, 2003 9:39 pm

The one I've got is a SW240B/DNR with BD11 firmware, and is manufactured in Dec 2002.
It only has a 2Mb buffer, but supports UDMA33. All other stats seem the same, i.e. 40-12-40.

Can anybody else confirm these findings?

I think that the OEM versions have the 2 meg buffer and the retail versions have an 8 meg buffer

Same thing for me. Anybody has any idea to upgrade the firmware?

A firmware upgrade will NOT allow you to get the 8 meg buffer. That is a hardware issue and not a software problem
