CDRW problems

Postby bgula on Thu Feb 06, 2003 12:52 pm

I've been having problems with CDRW's and disk errors. I burned a VCD directly to a out-of-the-box CDRW using Nero and now I want to re-burn a new VCD, but I get an error. I have tried to erase the disk with Nero, EZCD-Creator and then re-burn, but still get errors. Did I ruin the CDRW by not formatting it first, or does that matter? If I do need to format first, what should I be using to format the disk?

Thanks for any info.

first of all, did you do a quick or a full erase?
try a full erase if you haven't already done so. much preferable to a quick erase.

you did not ruin the CDRW disc by not formatting it. there is no need to format a disc before writing to it (unless you do packet writing, which is something completely different, i don't think your'e talking about that...)

what brand of CDRW media are you using?
try another brand. Verbatim are highly recommended.

I've done several full erases, but get an erase error. I'm using Memorex CDRWs. I've now had 4 of 5 disks from this pack ending up with errors. Is it me, or is it the media?

Its definitely the media. Memorex CD-RW's are the worst you can buy. Dump them in the trash and get some Verbatim's. Everyone knows Memorex CD-RW's are of VERY poor quality and several error checking programs will back that statement up.

Check out the following thread, as it shows pics of the poor quality Memorex CD-RW disc being checked with Nero CD Speed and CD Doctor.

it's the media.
can't find just now, but there's quite a few posts about how bad this media is.
Spazmogen wrote some of them plus pictures too of CDSpeed ScanDisc with LOTS of red - terrible.

damn, Buddha, you beat me to it AND found those pics!
