52X--is it safe?

I've been reading reviews of various CD burners that have a capacity of
52X speed---but isn't the current technology only designed to be used at
48X or slower?

I like the TDKs the best. Any thoughts?

If it makes any difference, I've burned a couple hundred CDR's at 52x in my LTR-52246S, and have read at least twice that many in it (also at 52x). Me, my drive and all the afore mentioned CDR's are all in good health.

52x is safe most of the time. I have also burned quite a few CD's at 52x without problems. A problem would only arise with CD's that weren't made for such high speeds, but those seem rare.

I don't know whether or not ricrat read through the whole thread that I referenced. My conclusion, and the conclusion of many others, was that a 52x drive is perfectly safe when used with proper care. The only potential problem would be if you put a damaged disc in the drive. Of course, the same applies to a 48x and even a 40x drive. But, ricrat may have read the various arguments and decided for himself that he would be more comfortable drawing the line at 48x. There is nothing wrong with that.
