Anyone have any hands-on experience with this drive? How is its performance and reliablility compared to the similar LITE-ON product?

:D Thanks!

My friend's AOpen CRW5224 (OEM) is quieter than a comparable Lite-On. :) The media compatibilty seems to be about the same as a Lite-On's; then again, my friend only uses Verbatim DataLifePlus 48X, Fuji/TY 48X, Imation 48X, and Memorex/TY 48X CD-Rs. :)

So far -- from what I can tell -- the writing quality (with the latest firmware) is pretty good.

Have you upgraded your burner with the latest fimware version (1.05, I believe)?

There is a new firmware version out for the AOpen CRW5224.

I tried it on my friend's burner. Using CDSpeed's write test, it now burns 16X Maxell (Ritek) discs at 52X with no problems (and it burns better than the 40X Maxell). Most of the other 48X blank media I had on hand (Verbatim DataLifePlus, Fuji, Optimum/CMC) reached 52X (and in some cases 53X) in the write test with no problems. Even the TDK 32X (TY) and Memorex 40X (TY) had no problems reaching 52X at the end.

The fastest average speed (40.02X) was achieved with TDK 48X (CMC).

Total burn time for all of these media was around 2:25 - 2:30 (give or take a few seconds).

Interesting. :)

Hi first time here, great place.
I just bought mine CDRW52x24x52 from buslink by aopen, but I cant use the firmware even though it's made by Aopen. ? How do they restrict that?

I also have problem using one IDE cable for my DVD-ROM and the Aopen CDRW drive. The BIOS and WinXP Pro both recognizes the CDRW drive, but whenever the CDRW is sharing the IDE cable with DVD-ROM, it's just became unaccessible w/ computer management error 10 (!) (I've tried switch jumpers, but didn't help). But when the CDRW is the only device, it seems to work fine. What could be the problem?

system:
Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., LTD 7DXR
1200 megahertz AMD Athlon
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Bus Master IDE Controller

feedbacks welcome, thanks :o
