This is a kick ass deal, even if you don't use it to burn CD-R discs.

Thanks for the info. I think that this will be a much used toy! I picked it up along with a 10-pack of mini CD-RW's(Memorex), and this little toy may just put my Sony MD on the back burner for a bit (No digital rights management!). My only concern is the proprietary rechargeable battery, but I suppose that at $20 for the unit (after MIR), that I can spring for an extra one. :P

I'm curious to know if it works with mini-RW discs. I know it will probably read them fine, but what about rewritiing?

Actually, I only bought the mini-RW because the one on display at the store had one sitting in it, but I get home and the player will not recognize the ones that I bought  . Just says "No Disc". I must say that it was kind of disappointing, but I almost wonder if the problem is not the media which is 211mb while the web site says it only supports 202mb discs :-? . I say this because CloneCd's info on the drive says that it will read CD-RW but will not write to it, however, Nero says that it only supports CD-R. I may have to experiment a bit because reading RW would make this so much more handy.

I got lucky and got one on Black Friday (someone had left one lying around the store) for $29.99 after $50 MIR.

Now it is even cheaper!

I burned one of the included mini CD-Rs on one of my normal CD-RW drives.
The unit is great - excellent audio etc..., except that it uses a proprietary rechargeable battery just like my iRiver iMP-350 :(
One minus is that the battery life isn't very long.

I don't use it much (understatement), since my iMP-350 has a tuner as well, but it is good for days when I am going out after work, and don't want to have a bigger CD player around my waist.

WARNING: I think it does NOT support -RW media, only -R media.Shouldn't be of much concern for most people, but...
Burners only:
Pioneer DVR-115D
Pioneer DVR-111D
Plextor PX-716A TLA0304
Plextor PX-716A same TLA

LiteOn 52246S 52X CD-RW
LiteOn 52246S (another)
LiteOn 52327S 52X CD-RW
TDK 40X USB 2.0 CD-RW
TEAC CD-W540E 40X CD-RW

According to Imation it only records to CD-R:

They also claim the battery provides continuous playback for 5 hours.
