If your interested, PM ME, and we'll try to worksomething out. If there are no takers, I'm just going to return it to Fry's before the 30 days is up. Thanks BuddhaTB. That is one hot deal!!!

DAMN DAMN! I just bought an 80GB HD, the same one, from CompUSA for $90 after rebate, and I thought that was a hot deal!

Anyways, I live 3 hours from the nearest Fry's, so I won't be able to take advantage of this deal.

Also, with the shipping charges and what not, it wouldn't make good economic sense for me to buy the HD from your friend.

Thanks though!!!!!

I really hate it!

Anyways, I live 3 hours from the nearest Fry's, so I won't be able to take advantage of this deal.

Unfortunately, I only live 15min away. Worse yet, it's about half way between my house and my daughter's house. So I do go there a lot.

But one thing, I never let those guys look in my bag and check it against my receipt. I just tell 'em: "I don't want that." and walk on by.

UPDATE
One of the $30 Mail-In Rebates for the Audigy 2 Sound Card Is Only Valid 2/23 To 2/25. Therefore, the Audigy 2 Sound Card will be $79 after rebates, instead of the $49 previous quoted. I just found this out, but Fry's was good enough to credit me the $30 since a sales assoc. had placed out shelf tags with the wrong prices on them. As for the rest of you, only one $30 mail-in rebate will be valid.

Arrggh.. must resist...

BuddhaTB, if you ever see one of Fry's crazy CPU/mobo combos, lemme know. I don't really "need" another system, but oh well...

Ian, you know as well as I do that resistance is futile. Like giving candy to a baby.

BuddhaTB - do you have a link to the Fry's deal? My friend who lives near one says he only sees in the Friday ad for $80 after rebates...

Fry's Combo

Postby CowboySlim on Fri Feb 21, 2003 7:39 pm

Huge Combo Deal!!!!!!!!!!!

ECS mobo with P4 (I forgot the GHz rating but at least 2) for $140.

No rainchecks, so they probably only opened with 3.

Hey, I'm working from memory - didn't bring my paper with me.

I hate that place!

If you get one, don't let 'em look in your bag on the way out!

Oh yeah, all stores want to see your face on your DL when you use a credit card.

But what I mean at Fry's is there is another guy at the exit that wants to go through your bag or buggy and cross check each item against the receipt. It is that guy that I refuse to let him rummage through my new stuff. Saw that on an anti-Fry's site - a real scream, that site. Don't let 'em look in your bag!

The guy at my Fry's today just looked at the receipt and signed it. He didn't even bother looking at the bag. What's the big deal with them cross checking the receipt and the bag unless you have something to hide?

Nothing Buddha, to hide, I just don't like it since I saw it on that other site.

After all, they don't look at my bag when I walk out of the Boot Barn!

OK. Back on the main subject. Just got home - looked at the combo.

It's $160 for the 2.4GHz P4 with 533MHz FSB, bare CPU (no fan) and the ECS mobo (the one that takes both DDR and SDRAM). I've heard that these dual RAM mobos don't work well. Probably a POS. If you think that the bare CPU is a good deal, give the mobo to Good Will and take a $100 deduction with your TurboTax next year.

What Fry's do you live by? I see deals listed on the AT forums all the time.

I'm broke right now anyway.

The one in the City of Industry, CA. It's like 3 miles from my house, so no hassle at all if you want me to check something out for you.

Ian, what's the web address of the AT forum?

btw.. here's the new Fry's ad:

http://ads.myoc.com/interactive-ads/ocr ... 880-01.pdf

Right now they have a 2.4GHz P4 and ECS Mobo for $159.99. Not too shabby IMO.

CenDyne 52/24/52 CD-RW for $29.99 after $40 MIR

Not bad at all! The P4 2.4GHz processor alone is worth $159.99 if not more! You can get the combo deal and throw in 512MB of PC2100 RAM for $49.99 after rebate and the Western Digital 80GB hard drive for $69.95 after rebate from Fry's, then you'll have a brand new PC (minus case/PSU and video card)! Imagine that, the core essentials for a P4 computer for under $280! Amazing!

They had an AMD 2000+ or something and an ECS mobo last week for $80. It also showed up on outpost.com but there was some big fiasco where it was "out of stock" or some BS.

Bhudda,

I've seen that one, it's like you're going east on the 60 to MWAVE to get more stuff you don't really need.

Well, anyway, I'm off to the one in FV. It's like an obsessive/compulsive/addiction! I hate that place - but I just can't stay away!

Fry's is 3 miles to the west of me. Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA are about 5 miles to the east. And then there's MWAVE that's 6-7 miles away to the east also. Basically, I'm well stocked with options when it comes to electronics and computer stuff.

BTW - Do you know if there was a limit per customer on that Fry's deal?

I may be interested in that extra hard drive you got, do you have any references? (i am on beerology because I deal mainly on ars technica's agora forum)

All Fry's deals are limit one per customer.

As for selling you the drive, I'm not too sure what kind of references your looking for, but people here can vouch for my honesty. Maybe my ebay feedback would help, even though I haven't made very many transactions on there yet. PM me or e-mail me at buddhatb23@hotmail.com and we'll see if we can working something out by Friday. That's when I'll be returning the drive back to Fry's if there are no takers.

Try 6:32 PM. That's when the return line is down to its minimum of 38 minutes.

Sorry you had to wait so long Slim. I plan to return this drive in the morning around 9AM before I head off for my only class on Friday. There should be minimal wait at that time of day.
