Dell Lattitude error message: The driver CDR4_2K.SYS on your

Postby dwh on Tue Feb 25, 2003 12:51 pm

I have a Dell Lattitude. When my CDrom is in the bay, everything is fine, but when I have 2 batteries installed and no CDRom I get this error on startup:
"The driver CDR4_2K.SYS on your system is old. Please re-install DirectCD to update this driver".

I never changed the default config on my laptop. What should I do?

Thanks!

Are you actually using DirectCD?

Is this CD-ROM to which you refer actually just a CD-ROM, or is it a CD-RW drive? Do you now have, or did you ever have, a CD-RW drive installed? Assuming that you do or did, did you ever install Easy CD Creator or Direct CD? Look for them in your program folders and the Add/Remove Program control panel applet. What OS are you running?

The drive plays CDs but that's all I ever used it for...I guess it does record because I just looked and see something called Roxio CD creator. Is that related?

Yeah, it came with the laptop. But it just sticks inside the laptop, I can switch it with a battery or a disk drive..

Nope, but maybe it came with it...

Thanks, OK found Easy CD Creator 5 Basic.

What OS are you running?

Well, it sounds like the simplest thing to do, if you have never used the burning capability of your drive and never intend to, is to simply uninstall Easy CD Creator and Direct CD (I can't believe I am saying this here :-? ). If you completely uninstall Easy CD Creator, it will probably uninstall Direct CD at the same time, because they are related products. If not, also uninstall Direct CD in a separate step. You will still be able to use the drive as normal CD-ROM.

If you do want to use the burning capability, let us know and we will try to figure out another course of action.
