Verbatim CD-RW 52x24x52. What do I have-Cendyne or Verbatim?

About a week ago went to local OfficeMax store to get a Verbatim 48x12x48 CD-rw they had on special sale. They were out of stock but substituted a Verbatim 52x24x52 CD-RW, nothing on outside of box to indicate who made the drive. Had to go out of town and did not open the carton until I returned yesterday. Opened carton and drive had a Verbatim label showing Model VBT522452A. However in a small box in center of the label in real small print it shows what appears to be Chinese characters (drive made in China) and in English shows "CD-RW drive/LTR32123S" also beneath that it shows Cendyne,Inc. Can someone tell me if this is a Lite-On drive and if speeds are lower than Verbatim shows on the drive. I still feel like I got a good deal but am still curious to know what I have. Would appreciate any information offered. Thank You

It doesn't matter, cajun! What does matter, is that whichever it is, you use it burn out some of those good ole' fiddle and squeeze box tunes. You know, like Chanky Chank Francais by Beausoleil!

Hmmm. That sounds very fishy.

The 32123S is a 32x writer. If it's a Verbatim-badged Cendyne-badged LiteOn, that's no big deal, but that model number concerns me.

Plug it in and see what it reports. It is definitely a LiteOn though; Cendyne rebadge other companies' writers just like Verbatim.

Hey cajun,

Another thought, a lot (if not most) of the OfficeMax deals include rebates. If they subbed another model, I expect that the UPC label will reject and the rebate won't be fulfilled.

Hey Slim, what clued you to thinking I would have Zydeco LP's, LOL. That is exactly what I intend to do, have a bunch them from Doug Kershaw to Rockin Doopsie. Also a bunch of old New Orleans Jazz never put on CD's. Also wondered about the rebate deal, OfficeMax gave me an instant rebate of $30 and rebate coupon for another $30 from Verbatim, but even if they dont come through I still feel its a good deal for $40, beats the 12 speed writer I have right now.

Well, cajun, it didn't seem too much of a stretch, from your handle.

However, the New Orleans Jazz is certainly an unexpected connection, quite a surprize. I've got a bunch of LP's that I bought 40 years ago that I'd like to get on CDs, but no turntable thesedays. I did buy a great CD last year while browsing thru Barnes & Noble. The cover hit my like a ton of bricks and right between the eyes. An exact copy of an LP, also a purchase of 40 years ago but recorded in 1941. It is "Bunk & Lu" (Bunk Johnson & Lu Watters), Good Time Jazz (Label). Bunk playing with Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band.

Good stuff! I haven't heard Beausoleil in a long time. Chanky Chank Francais is awesome! I wish I could play the violin and accordion like the guys from Beausoleil do.
