Printing forum topics in Europe

Postby MediumRare on Fri Feb 28, 2003 5:18 pm

Is there something in the setup of the board that picks 8.5 x 11" paper ? I wanted to print KCK's InCD Howto but the right part of each page was missing. European A4 paper is roughly 1" narrower than US standard, and that's what was missing (both with IE6 and Opera).

It's not a big deal- I pasted the text into a text editor and printed it from there. Just curious.

It doesn't fit on 8.5x11 pages either. It's the banner ads that are pushing the width of the page beyond the size that will fit on either 8.5x11 letter or A4 sizes. :(

There is a mod that Ian could add to the forums that adds a "Printer" icon next to "New Topic" and "Reply" that brings up a Printer Friendly version of the page. You can find it here:

http://www.phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=1004

It only works on 2.04 though. (These are 2.03.)

You can see them in action at:

A post is here:

See? Very nice, easy, and convinient.

I'll let Socheat know about that if he hasn't seen it already. That would be a nice feature.

right now, clicking on the printer button gives you a pages with text only.

not very friendly IMO.

Looks good to me. The smilies :D came through OK in the thread I looked at, although the horizontal rulings separating the posts didn't make it to my (somewhat antiquated) printer. I don't know how imbedded images, e.g. CD Doctor scans, will show up- I couldn't find any in the TasAir site.

I think this would be a useful addition- alone for topics like KCK's HowTo.

Now that the forum's been upgraded to 2.04, would it be possible to apply the mod for a printer friendly version that Aviationwiz mentioned previously (http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=55321#55321)? I think this would be a good addition to the useability.

Big bug in "Printer friendly version"

Postby Syzygy on Fri Nov 12, 2004 3:33 am

There seems to be no way to get all of a thread's posts to be displayed at once.

I know, the first response you get to "Printer friendly version" is just the first page (no matter on what page you started); this seems also to be a problem with all vBulletin implementations.

But in this phpBB implementation, when you click on "Show all posts" you still see only the first page!
