Is the Verbatim 48x12x48 a Lite-On?

Postby scottm on Sun Mar 02, 2003 1:19 pm

Being out of the Cendyne drive at OfficeMax, they are substituting these for $20 (AR). I've heard most Verbatim's are Lite-Ons, but the packaging says absolutely nothing. Does anyone know if this drive (VBT481248a) is in fact a Lite-On?

It might be, it might not be. These days the only way to be sure is buy it, install it, and see. However, my gut reaction is that it is probably not a LiteOn. Verbatim, as with many others, seems to have shifted away from LiteOn lately. Recent buyers have reported Benq in the box.

Yes, install it and see. If it shows up as a "Verbatim 481248AL" or similar then it is a Lite-ON. Send me its firmware if that's the case ;)
