Is there any technical difference at all between this drive and the one with 1 LED?

Dunno really - this one might be Korean/8MB buffer, like in the good ole times, but it's probably just on sale overseas...

I hate the new cheap style with one LED.

I loved my first burner with the Write RED led. I don't understand why they changed to one LED.

Cheaper to produce? elim, I think that picture is a mock up. They probably took their 48x writer and slapped some new graphics on it for the website.

Yep - I noticed that your review/ 1 light unit was made in Korea (mine is Chinese), so that may be just a mock up

That site is probably the worldwide site if you're in the US then do http://www.lgeus.com . I do like two leds better than one though it's not anything I myself would get a belly ache over.

USA'S LG site doesn't show you the burners if it has one or two LEDs because the tray is open. :x

Canada's LG site shows the two leds

I don't mind the single LED. At least LG has changed the color of the LED's to intuitively reflect the status of the drive.

It used to be:
GREEN for burning and RED/ORANGE for reading.

Now it's:
RED/ORANGE for burning and GREEN for reading.

I am still waiting for the new firmware to be released...otherwise, the drive is very very picky about CDR media to be burnt @ high speed.

I also got a email back about that too, and another short answer.... "Its due to media imitations not the unit"

I don't understand, why don't they just implement an option where you can turn-off the drive's media detection...
