Sony, Liteon or Memorex?

Postby jimbo on Tue Mar 11, 2003 6:53 pm

I know these drives are all Liteon based, but I am building a system for quiet. Also I prefer in black.
Is the Sony or Memorex any quieter than the Liteon? Or would they all be the same? One turn off about the Sony is having to hold the button to get full 52x. If I flash the Sony to Liteon would it be any quieter than the Liteon? Or same for the Memorex?
Thanks,

JP

You never really said what speed you're getting, but I'm guessing you're looking at their 48x or 52x writers.

To put it plainly.. none of them are quiet when reading and writing at 52x. The Sony would be your best choice for noise because the default reading and writing speeds are lower. Unfortunately, they're not available in black.

Lite-Ons come bundled with Ahead S/W. SONY, box doesn't even say. Friend of mine bought SONY, doesn't like the S/W, whatever it is.

About the noise: Put a Jerry Jeff Walker CD in your other drive and your BOSE earphones on.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
My other questions are:
Are the 48x any quieter than the 52x? (liteons), and is the new TDK 52x24x48x a Liteon?
Thanks again,

JP

48x on a 52x capable drive will be exactly the same as on a 48x max drive. Yes the 52x24x48 TDK is a Lite-ON
